Purpose

What this workflow does

Converts a section of a handbook, regulation or your own notes into practice questions with plausible distractors and written answer discussions.

Timing

When it is useful

After you have read something once and want to find out whether you actually understood it, rather than re-reading it and feeling that you did.

Method

Step by step

01Choose one bounded section of source material. A whole handbook produces shallow questions; one subpart produces sharp ones.
02Paste the source text into the prompt. Do not ask the model to recall the material from memory.
03Request the answer key and discussion separately from the questions so you can attempt them cold.
04Attempt the questions before reading any answers.
05Check every answer against the source text you supplied. Correct anything the model got wrong and note the pattern.

Rules:
- Use only what is in the source material. If something is not stated there, do not test it.
- Four options per question. Distractors must be plausible and must reflect realistic misunderstandings, not obviously wrong answers.
- Vary the cognitive level: some recall, some application, some interpretation of a short scenario.
- After the questions, and clearly separated under a heading "ANSWER KEY AND DISCUSSION", give for each question the correct option, why it is correct, and specifically why each distractor is wrong.
- For each question, quote the sentence or phrase from the source material that supports the answer.
- If the source material is ambiguous on a point, say so instead of inventing a definitive answer.

Check every answer against the source text you pasted, not against the model's explanation.
Confirm the quoted supporting sentence actually appears in your source.
Cross-check any regulatory figure against the current 14 CFR text on eCFR.
Discard questions that test something the source did not actually say.

Model-written questions are practice, not a predictor of the real examination bank.
If you paste outdated source material you will get confidently wrong questions. The output is only as current as the input.
Never use generated questions as a training record or as evidence of competence.
